Understanding Your Pregnancy
A positive pregnancy test is important, but it doesn’t tell you everything. To protect your health and consider your options, you need to know if the pregnancy is developing normally, how far along you are, and whether it is located in the uterus.
At Ohana Health, we offer no-cost limited ultrasounds following a positive pregnancy test at our clinic or proof of pregnancy from a medical provider to provide that essential information. With those details in hand, you can confidently explore your options and find a clear path forward.
What an Ultrasound Reveals
Ultrasound uses sound waves to create an image of your uterus and pregnancy. The sound waves bounce off your body’s internal structures and pregnancy, converting them to images on a screen.
Our trained medical professionals will explain each step during the scan and ensure your comfort. Ultrasound can:
- Verify viability: determine if the pregnancy is progressing and detect a heartbeat. Miscarriages occur in as many as 26% of pregnancies, and if you have miscarried, you may require medical follow-up.
- Determine gestational age: identify how far along you are, which is critical when considering all options. For example, medical abortion is FDA-approved through 10 weeks gestation.
-
Identify location: ensure the pregnancy is in the uterus. An ectopic pregnancy, which develops outside the uterus, is rare but life-threatening and requires immediate medical treatment.
