Community Conscience – Thousand Oaks
Community Conscience’s mission is to provide a single location where human services programs are available and accessible at no cost to recipients and to maximize coordination among agencies.
Twelve social service agencies operate rent-free at their 22,000 square-foot building providing them with approximately $300,000 in savings per year they can otherwise use to deliver services.
Their tenants include groups such as Ohana Health pregnancy clinic, the Conejo Free Clinic, Hospice of Conejo, Senior Alliance for Empowerment, and Gold Coast Veterans Foundation. One government social service agency is also a tenant – County of Ventura – Human Services Agency.
Food Share Ventura County
Since 1978, Food Share has been feeding the hungry in Ventura County. It all began when eight friends banded together to provide food to those in need under a bridge in Ventura, CA. The early philanthropic movement started in a family garage, quickly outgrew a donated fire station in Saticoy and now operates in Oxnard, CA with three warehouses with a combined 46,000 square feet.
Today, staff and volunteers distribute nearly 20 million pounds of food, providing over 16 million meals annually to people in Ventura County through its hunger programs and 175 pantry and program partners. As Ventura County’s regional food bank, Food Share provides food for over 250,000 hungry friends and neighbors annually.
A 501(c)3 non-profit organization, Food Share is a member of the Feeding America network, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization, as well as the California Association of Food Banks.
So how does Food Share Ventura County partner with Ohana Health? They supply us with diapers and wipes as a part of our Earn While You Learn & Baby Basics program! Food Share ensures Ohana Health has enough diapers and wipes to help us carry out our mission of offering supportive services that empower mothers to choose life.
